The Indian Premier League is set to return in 2023 with a bang! The much-anticipated tournament will see all the top teams from around the world battle it out for the coveted title. The schedule for IPL 2023 has been released and it promises to be an action-packed affair.
The tournament will kick off on April 5th and will run until May 27th. A total of 60 matches will be played across 12 venues in India. The opening match of the tournament will see defending champions Mumbai Indians take on Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
This promises to be a mouth-watering clash between two of the most successful teams in IPL history. Other key matches in the group stage include Kolkata Knight Riders vs Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals vs Punjab Kings. The knockout stages of the tournament will begin on May 25th with the Qualifier 1 taking place at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
The Eliminator and Qualifier 2 will be held at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on May 26th and 27th respectively. The grand finale of IPL 2023 will take place at Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 27th. This promises to be a spectacular event that no cricket fan would want to miss!

How Many Matches Will Be Played in Ipl 2023

The 2020 season was originally scheduled to begin on 29 March, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic in India, it was postponed to 15 April. On 13 March 2020, BCCI suspended the tournament indefinitely due to escalating health concerns related to the pandemic. It was announced on 4 August that the tournament would be held from 19 September to 8 November in Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi.
However, on 2 October 2020, it was further postponed to 2021 due to continued COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. The BCCI confirmed that they were working towards hosting the IPL in April and May 2021 subject to government clearance. So far there has not been an official announcement about how many matches will be played in IPL 2023.
However, based on previous seasons we can expect there will around 60 matches played over a period of around six weeks.

It has hosted many high-profile matches including several Test matches, One Day Internationals (ODIs) and Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).
Some of the notable matches hosted by Eden Gardens include the 1987 World Cup final, 1996 World Cup semi-final, 1999 Cricket World Cup super sixes stage match between England and South Africa and also 2002 Champions Trophy group stage match between Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Wankhede Stadium is located in Mumbai and has a capacity of 45,000 spectators. It was built over 37 years ago and since then it has hosted numerous international matches across all formats including Test matches, ODIs as well as T20Is.
Some notable moments at Wankhede Stadium include Sunil Gavaskar’s record-breaking 36th Test century against West Indies in 1978/79 season, Sachin Tendulkar’s maiden ODI century against Australia in 1998/99 season as well as Joginder Sharma’s last over heroics which helped India win 2007 ICC World Twenty20 trophy against Pakistan.
