The Sign of Triumph is the first book in David Weber’s Safehold series. The story centers around the planet Safehold and its inhabitants, who are unaware that they are living on a world that was once part of the human race’s empire. The humans were forced to flee their home after a devastating war with an alien race known as the Gbaba.
The only survivors were those who escaped on a starship called the Ark Royal. The Ark Royal’s mission was to find a new home for humanity, but it was damaged during the war and crash-landed on Safehold.

Weber was born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1952.
He graduated from Miami University with a degree in history in 1974, and then went on to serve as an officer in the United States Navy. After his military service, Weber returned to writing full-time.
Weber’s first novel, Insurrection (1992), was published by Baen Books.
It was the start of his long-running Honorverse series, which follows the adventures of Honor Harrington, a female starfleet captain who serves as both a diplomat and a warrior. The series has been hugely successful, spawning several spin-off series and selling millions of copies worldwide.
